Teaching programming is hard. Teaching programming to students with no programming experience is even harder. For this reason, two years ago the Hogeschool Rotterdam started with a large-scale experiment: mixing online intelligent tools with traditional didactics. At the core of this experiment is GrandeOmega: a web-application which does not just provide content to students, but which is also capable of providing students with real-time, accurate feedback in order to assist learning. The HR is now working with GrandeOmega with hundreds of first and second-year students, with results far beyond expectations. Students are learning more, passing harder exams, and expressing more satisfaction.
